Edgar Mwombeki Kiiza is a Tanzanian pilot with over 8 years of experience and more than 4,000 hours in the air. Edgar began his aviation journey in Dar es Salaam, earning his private pilot license at Moswood Aviation Training before continuing his commercial training in South Africa. Since then, he’s flown with Coastal Aviation, spent two years at Air Excel, and now plays a leading role as both Flying & Quality Manager at Miracle Air.
With a background in aviation safety and deep experience flying the Cessna Caravan 208B, Edgar brings a sharp eye for detail and a calm, reassuring presence to every flight. What inspired him to become a pilot? “The freedom. The peace and quiet above the hustle on the ground.”
At Miracle Air, Edgar says the best part is the luxury charter experience, a relaxed, smile-filled atmosphere that sets it apart from traditional airlines. One of his favorite memories so far was flying over Ol Donyo Lengai, but he says the best moments are still to come.
When it comes to flying, Edgar holds himself to a high standard. Quality checks are second nature, and he ensures passengers feel safe and seen by keeping safety briefings clear, checking in throughout the flight, and always keeping their comfort top of mind.
Outside the cockpit, you’ll find Edgar spending time with friends and family, building connections, and enjoying the human side of life.
His dream destination to fly? The Comoros.
And the one word he uses to describe the feeling of being in the air: Freedom.
